Briefcase Wins IF Concept Award 2008 by Alexandros Stasinopoulos though still in the conceptual stage, the Briefcase FC(eramic)ACE recently won the iF Concept Award at the 2008 International Forum Design competition on Creative and Unique concept at lifstyle. Alexandros Stasinopoulos is a Greek product designer trained in Italy and Holland. The briefcase also employs leather straps for closure and handles for a supple, tactile counterpoint to the ceramic. A briefcase is the medium to explore the potentials of this combination”.

Though clumsily titled, the case is a sleek, hardshell container that makes extensive use of Zirconium Oxide, an extremely rigid though rarely utilized form of ceramic. The challenge in this project, was to mix the concept of traditional ceramics.

The project looks to reconcile the primitive nature of ceramics (think traditional terracotta and porcelain) with its rather impressive physical attributes. A primitive material with long history in many cultures, with the unique properties high tech ceramics posses like their extreme hardness

Zirconium Oxide ranks second only to diamond on the hardness scale and resists scratches and abrasion far better than conventional plastics. Scratch- and abrasion-resistance, skin friendliness and their unique sensuous tactility.
